Agitated with such violence he decided to become a revolutionary and formed his own party The Tala Party which started causing political disturbances. In 1983 when his party tried to hamper the 1983 cricket match with West Indies, he was sent to jail. In 1986, he returned from jail and his party’s name was changed to Islamic Students League (ISL). In 1987 Yasin again got arrested without any formal charge. After returning from the prison he changed his name to Syed Salahuddin and joined Pakistan's group Azad Kashmir. After two years in 1989, he came back to his state and became a part of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) with the primary objective of making J&K an independent state. In 1990 Yasin again got arrested by the Indian forces till 1994. After which he adopted the non-violent ways for the independence of Kashmir but nothing worked. In 2007 he started a campaign Safar-i-Azadi which mainly aimed at promoting anti-Indian feeling among the people of Kashmir. In 2009 he got married to Mushaal Hussein Mullick. The couple has a daughter named Raziyah. Yasin Malik is said to have connections with Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed. Yasin keeps having discussions with Pakistan’s PM, President and other leaders as well.
