Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu was born on 11th July 1953. He is currently the Minister of Commerce and Industry of India. By profession, he is a Chartered Accountant and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He has been a repetitively elective member of parliament from Rajpur Lok Sabha in Maharashtra as a member of Shiv Sena political party from 1996. He joined BJP on 9th November 2014 and left Shiv Sena. Currently, he represents Andhra Pradesh in Upper House of Indian Parliament.
Did his schooling from Sharadarshram Vidya Mandir, Dadar, Mumbai, and did graduation from M. L. Dahanukar College, Vile Parle, Mumbai in Bachelor of Commerce with Honours. Received a law degree from New Law College, Mumbai. He is a married person and is married to journalist Uma Prabhu, they both have a son named Ameya Prabhu.
He currently lives in Delhi. On 18th August 2016, he received the Goud Saraswat Brahim Samaj Maharatha Award and was also awarded ‘Indian of the year award” in 2017. From 1996-2009 he was Member of the Indian Parliament for Raipur, from 30 September 2000 – 24 August 2002 he was Minister of Power, from 9 November 2014 – 3 September 2017, he was Minister of Railways, from 29 November 2014 – 21 June 2016, he was MP of Rajya Sabha for Haryana, from 22 June 2016, he was MP of Rajya Sabha for Andhra Pradesh.
