Satya Pal Singh was India's Minister of State for Human Resource Development responsible for Higher Education and Minister of State in the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation. He was born on November 29, 1955 (age 66 years), in Bagpat, India. He is a Member of the Lok Sabha since 2014. He did his study at the University of Delhi, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University. His father’s name is Ch. Ramkishan and his mother’s name is Smt. Hukmwati. He married Smt. Alka Singh.
Singh joined as an IPS officer in the 1980 batch and his first posting was in Nasik as the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). He later went on to become the SP of Buldhana and eventually was named Maharashtra's Additional Director General of Police before serving as Mumbai City Police Commissioner. He is widely credited for curbing the menace of organized crime syndicates in Mumbai during his tenure as the Joint CP (Crime). He also served as the Commissioner of Nagpur where he started an outreach program called Mission Mrityunjay to fight anti-social activities and terrorism with the help of students to fight terrorism. He started a similar initiative in Pune during his stint as Commissioner of the City. It was during his tenure as Pune CP when the world was rocked by the 2010 Pune bombings at German Bakery in which 17 people were killed. He was appointed as Commissioner of Mumbai Police on August 23, 2012. On 31 January 2014, he tendered his resignation and applied for the voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) to join the BJP.
