Renjith Maheswary is an Indian triple jumper born on January 30, 1986, in Channanikadu, Kottayam, Kerala. He is married to Indian pole vaulter and National record holder V. S. Surekha and they have a daughter named Jhiya Renjith. The 30-year-old is currently employed in the Indian railways as chief ticket officer. He represented India at the Beijing Olympics 2008 as well as participated in the London Olympics 2012. At the 2012 London Games as at the World Championships in Daegu, he committed three consecutive foul jumps at the qualifying stage, stopped his Olympic campaign. In Beijing Olympics also, he did not manage to perform well and came up with a best of 15.77m. In Rio Olympics, 2016, he ranked 30th in the men’s triple jump event with a leap of 16.13m. This was his third stint in the Olympics. ChristianTaylor of United States, Leevan Sands of Bahamas and Tosin Oke of Nigeria competed with him. In July 2016, at the Indian Grand Prix in Bengaluru, he broke the national record with a leap of 17.30m. He bettered the Olympic qualification mark of 16.85m to qualify for the Rio Olympics. He has represented India in Olympics for nearly a decade and has loads of experience with him. At Rio, he made his third Olympic appearance. He has a gold medal in Men's Triple jump in 2007 Asian Championship, bronze medal in Men's Triple jump at 2010 Commonwealth Games in his bag. He held the Indian national record till 2014 for a jump of 17.07 metres at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. He made a new Indian record on July 11, 2016, for a jump as high as 17.30 m in Indian Grand Prix meet at Bengaluru. Even after making the country proud, a controversy was flashed against him when he failed a dope test after the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games but was let off after a three-month suspension. However, he wasn't cleared of the charges and the pending allegations against him lead to the announcement by The Sports Ministry of India on September 19, 2013, that he would not be given Arjuna Award.Mahe?wary needed a jump of 16.95 metres to qualify automatically in the triple jump event but it wasn’t enough for him to qualify for the triple jump finals.
