Naveen Patnaik is the 14th Chief Minister of Odisha. He is the member of Biju Janata Dal. Born on 16 October 1946 in Cuttack, Naveen was born in the political family. However, he stayed away from politics until his father’s demise and formed Biju Janata Dal in 1997 and won the elections and become the chief minister of the state.
Patnaik did his schooling from Welham Boys' School in Dehradun and later went to The Doon School. He received his bachelor’s degree in arts from the Kirori Mal College, Delhi University.
Naveen Patnaik is one such minister under whose leadership the state had developed and reached new heights. His tactics and ways of ruling are influenced from that of his father’s.
He controlled the power and impact of bureaucrats and changed it to help it for the development of the state. He had won four consecutive terms as the Chief Minister of Odisha i.e. in the elections of the year 2000, 2004, 2009 and 2014.
He was also a member of the Consultative Committee of Ministry of Steel & Mines, Member of Standing Committee on Commerce and Member Library Committee of Parliament.
He is the only Chief Minister of India who cannot speak his regional language and thus received a lot of flak from the opposite party. However, he delivers Odia language speech written in Roman alphabets.
Naveen Patnaik made efforts to vacate almost a million people from Cyclone Phailin which was the cause of a landfall on coastal Odisha in October 2013.
He was felicitated by the United Nations (UN) for his efforts. In the Mood of the Nation Poll by India Today-ORG-Marg, he was ranked the Most Popular Chief Minister of India. In the NDTV Opinion Poll, Patnaik was ranked the Second Best Performing Chief Minister.
