Kirti Azad is also known as Kirti was born on 2 January 1959 into a Hindu family in Darbhanga, Bihar, India. By profession, he is a former cricketer and journalist. His father Bhagwat Jha Azad was a chief minister of Bihar and a member of Lok sabha and his mother Indira Jha Azad was a homemaker. He attended Modern School, Delhi to complete his basic education. In Ranji Trophy, he scored 4867 runs and took 162 wickets. In 1985, he scored 215 runs against Himachal Pradesh.
In 1980, he was selected for the tour of Australia and New Zealand. He was a leading part of India winning the semi-final against England in 1983 World Cup. Later, he was elected to parliament on a Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) ticket from Darbhanga, Bihar. In 2014, he won the Lok Sabha election and represent Darbhanga. In 2015, he was suspended from BJP for open targeting Union finance minister Late Arun Jaitley. In 2019, he joined the Indian National Congress (INC). In 2012, he was in a controversy of IPL and ashamed to be associated with the BCCI.
