Dilip born on 1st October 1955 in Amreli, Gujarat, India. His parents are father Shantilal Sanghvi and mother Kumud Sanghvi. Dilip did his degree in Bachelor of Commerce, from the University of Calcutta. He did his schooling at J. J. Ajmera High School. Shanghvi is married to Vibha Shanghvi, the couple has two children’s, 1 son Aalok and 1 daughter Vidhi. Dilip and Vibha currently work in Sun Pharmaceuticals.
He started his career by helping his father in selling wholesale generic medicine in Kolkata. He started his Sun Pharmaceutical industries with the capital of Rs. 10,000 in 1982. Sun acquired Caraco Pharma in 1997, as this company was in a loss-making American company. Afterwards, Sun also acquired one more company in 2007, the company was Israel’s Taro Pharma. Then in 2012 Dilip stepped down as Chairman and CEO of Sun Pharmaceuticals and gave his position to Israel Makov, and Shanghvi himself became the Managing Director of the company.
Sun, Ranbaxy and Daiichi Sankyo in April 2014 decided that Sun will buy all the shared of Ranbaxy for $3.2B in Sun Stock and same Sun will take on $800M in Ranbaxy debt. In India Dilip’s company, Sun Pharmaceuticals is the largest drug company and the fifth largest in the world. Shanghvi’s net worth is $17.2 Billion in August 2014. He is awarded Padma Shri, the highest civilian honour in 2016. Dilip is on 8th position in India Today magazine on the list of 50 Most Powerful People of 2017.
