The state of Uttarakhand was formed on November 9, 2000. Previously it was a part of Uttar Pradesh and then it was carved out from the hilly districts of the state. Since its formation, total 7 people have been appointed as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. Nityanand Swami who belonged to the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) became the first Chief Minister of the state. The chief minister of Uttarakhand is the head of the Council of Ministers and the government of Uttarakhand. He is the chief executive of the North Indian state of Uttarakhand.
