Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya in short BCKV was established in 1974 in Mohanpur, Dist. Nadia, West Bengal, India. The viswavidyalaya is the pioneer institute of Agriculture Education, Research and Extension. The motto of the viswavidyalaya is “to improve socio-economic condition of the people related to agriculture and strengthen our food security. It is a public institution. The campus is in rural area. The main objective of the Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya is to provide facilities for the study of Agriculture, Horticulture and Agricultural Engineering. The university gives main focus towards good and proper education in different branches of study in Agriculture, Horticulture and Agriculture Engineering to prepare scientist and technocrats for future. There are three types of faculties in the university Agriculture, Horticulture and Agricultural Engineering. There are 17 departments under faculty of Agriculture (Agronomy, Soil Science & Chemistry, Agricultural Entomology, Agricultural Chemicals, Biotechnology, Instrumentation & Environmental Science, Soil & Water Conservation, Plant Pathology, Meteorology & Physics, Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Statistics, Agricultural Economics, Genetics, Plant Physiology, Plant Breeding, Animal Science, Agricultural Biochemistry, and Seed Science & Technology), 5 departments under faculty of Horticulture (Fruits & Orchard Management, Vegetable Crops, Floriculture & Landscaping, Post-Harvest Technology of Horticultural Crops, and Spices & Plantation Crops) and 4 departments under faculty of Agricultural Engineering (Soil & Water Engineering, Food Engineering, Post-Harvest Engineering, and Farm Machinery & Power). Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya is accredited by AICTE. The university is recognized by the University Grant Commission (UGC) and All India Coordinated Research Projects (ICAR). The Chancellor of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya is Sh. Mayankote Kelath Narayan who is also the Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal. The Vice-Chancellor of the Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya is Prof. Chittaranjan Kole. The Pro – Vice- Chancellor of the Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya is Prof. Biswapati Mandal. Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya offers undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral degree programs to the students. Some of the courses offered by the university are Bachelor of Science (Agriculture), Bachelor of Science (Horticulture), Master of Science (Agriculture), Doctor of Philosophy (Agriculture), Doctor of Philosophy in Agricultural Bio-Chemistry, B.Tech (Hons.) and many more. The facilities which are being provided by the university to the students Library, Hostel, Sports Facilities, Canteen, Laboratories etc,.
