Bhatkhande Music Institute University (BMIU) is located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. The music institute was established in 1926. In 1926, with the help and collaboration of Rai Umanath Bali and Rai Rajeshwar Bali, Pt. Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande established a music school in Lucknow. The founder of Bhatkhande Music Institute is “Late Pt. Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande”. The Music Institute was inaugurated by the Governor of Awadh “Sir William Marris” and it was named as “Marris College of Music”. The Government of Uttar Pradesh on March 26, 1996 renamed the college name as “Bhatkhande College of Hindustani Music”. On October 24, 2000 the Government of India on the request of State Government declared the institute as “University” by a notification. Bhatkhande Music Institute University is situated in urban area. The university is established under section 3 of the University Grant Commission (UGC) Act 1956. The Vice-Chancellor of the Bhatkhande Music Institute University is Prof. Shruti Sadolikar – Katkar. She is also the one of the finest exponents of the Vocalist of Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana of Hidustani Music.
