Bharathiar University was established in February, 1982. The University was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu. Bharathiar University is located in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, South India. Under the provision of Bharathiar University Act, 1981 (Act 1 of 1982) the university was established. The university is named after “Late Subramania Bharathiar” who was one of the great poet of India. The Bharathiar University is Re accredited by NAAC with “A” Grade. In 1985, the university was recognized by the University Grant Commission (UGC). The motto of the university is “Educate to Evaluate”. The University is located in urban area. There are 125 colleges affiliated under Bharathiar University. On 24 Feb, 2007 Bharathiar University celebrated it’s silver jubilee. The Chancellor of Bharathiar University is Sh. Konijeti Rosaiah who is also the Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu. He was also the Ex – Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The Pro - Chancellor of the University is Sh. P. Palaniappan who is also the Hon’ble Minister for Higher Education of Govt. of Tamil Nadu. The Vice-Chancellor of the University is Dr. G. James Pitchai.
