Berhampur University was established on 2nd Jan, 1967. The university is located in Brahmapur, Odisha, India. The university was inaugurated by Dr. A.N. Khosla who was the first chancellor of the university and also the Governor of Odisha at that time. It is also the oldest and prime university of Odisha. The motto of the university is "Thamasoma Jyothirgamaya" means “let light emerge from darkness”. The Berhampur University has been accredited by NAAC with a B+ rating. The university was setup to award university degrees. The Chancellor of Berhampur University is Sh. S.C. Jamir who is also the honorable Governor of Odisha. The Vice Chancellor of Berhampur University is Prof. Deepak Kumar Behera. At present there are 128 colleges affiliated under Berhampur University which include Government Colleges, Non-Government Colleges and Professional/Technical Colleges.
Berhampur University offer undergraduates, postgraduates, Ph.D and postgraduates diploma courses. Some of the programs offered by the university are B.A., B.com, BBM, BCA, B.Sc, LLB, B.Tech (in various streams) Bachelor of Engineering (in various streams), B.Pharm, M.B.B.S., BFA, BJMC, Bachelor of Library Science, M.A. (in various streams), MJMC, M.Sc, MCA, LLM, M.com, MBA, M.D., M.S., Master of Library Science, M.PHIL (Commerce and Mathematics) and Post Graduates Diploma in (Computer Application, PH Nursing etc.). The facilities which are being provided by the university to the students are Central Library, Health Centre, Guest House, Hostels, Sports & Games, NSS, Canteen, Banking, Post Office, Shopping, Children Park, Auditorium, Museum, Botanical Garden and many more.
