Arvind Subramanian born on 7th June 1959 in Chennai is a Indian by nationality. He is an Indian Economist and also the current Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India. Arvind completed his schooling from DAV boy's high secondary school, did graduation from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi in Economics Honours and from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad he did his MBA. For higher studies, he went to the UK on the Inlaks Scholarship and studied M. Phil and D. Phil. Arvind worked in the Research Department of the International Monetary Fund as the Assistant Director.
He has closely worked with the Governor of Reserve Bank of India Raghuram Rajan as a Development Economist. During the Uruguay Round of Trade Negotiations, he served at the GATT. He has also taught the students from 1999 – 2000 at the Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. Also from 2008 – 2010 Arvind taught at Johns Hopkins School. He has one elder brother named V. S. Krishnan, he works as an Indian Revenue Service Officer and currently, he has joined Central Board of Excise and Customs as the Member. Subramanian was assigned the duty of Chief Economic Advisor to the Indian Government in October, 2014.
As Raghuram Rajan left the post of Finance ministry to work as the Governor of Reserve Bank of India, his seat was vacant for 1 year and Arvind was assigned this post. He is an active columnist in the Business Standard, a leading financial daily.
