Aliah University (AU), formerly known as Mohammedan College of Calcutta was established in 2008 basically to uplift the education of Muslim people. It is located in Kolkata, West Bengal. The motto of this university is ‘Taught man what he did not know’. It is affiliated to University Grants Commission of India. The traditional, theological and cultural courses which were present during the time of Aliya Madrasah are still preserved now in this university. It offers undergraduate courses including M.Sc. (Geography, Economics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Computing), B.Tech. (CSE, ECE, EE, Civil and Mechanical engineering), postgraduate courses such as M.A. (English, Bengali, History, Arabic, Geography and Urdu) and various Ph.D. programmes. The university has also the facility of separate hostels for boys and girls and modern library for students.
