West Bengal Government Extends Service Tenure of 47 Junior Engineers in PWD

Kolkata, 01 August 2024: The Government of West Bengal has issued an official order extending the service tenure of 47 Contractual Junior Engineers (Electrical) employed in the Public Works Department (PWD). These engineers were initially engaged through a notification dated 30-08-2013 and another dated 25-09-2013 via Randstad for a fixed period. The extension comes into effect immediately from the date of completion of their previous service tenure.

Key Points of the Order

Salary and Remuneration:

• The monthly remuneration for these Junior Engineers will continue to be paid from the head of AC, “02-wages,” under the respective salary heads of the concerned Directorates within the PWD, drawing from the annual budget of the department.

Tenure and Future Employment:

• The contract of these engineers shall be terminated upon either the completion of one year from the date of this order or upon the permanent recruitment to the same posts through the Public Service Commission, whichever occurs earlier.

Financial Concurrence:

• This extension is made with the concurrence of the Finance Department, as evidenced by their reference number U.O No. Group P2/2024-2025/0365, dated 29/07/2024.

The order has been forwarded to several key departments and officials for immediate implementation and necessary actions:

• Principal Accountant General (A&E), West Bengal
• Pay & Accounts Officer, Kolkata
• Treasury Officer

Further notifications have been sent to other relevant departments within the PWD, including:

• Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department
• Secretary, PWD
• Chief Engineer (Works & Electrical), PWD
• Assistant Engineers, and other senior officials across various zones and sectors within the PWD.
