Transformation of India's Infrastructure Under NDA Government

The evolution of India's infrastructure landscape under the NDA government's stewardship has been nothing short of remarkable, marking a significant departure from the trends observed during the UPA era. Recent data and government reports shed light on the strides made in infrastructure development across various sectors, heralding a new era of growth and progress.

A notable example is the exponential growth in national highway construction, which languished at 12 km/day during the UPA regime but surged to an impressive 28 km/day in FY23 under the NDA government. This represents more than a 2.3-fold increase in the pace of construction, reflecting a renewed emphasis on expanding and modernizing India's road network.

Comparing the achievements, while the UPA government constructed nearly 16,000 km of national highways over a decade, the NDA government has surpassed this milestone by a significant margin in just under 10 years. The length of national highways has expanded from 0.98 lakh km to 1.45 lakh km from FY15 to FY23, signifying a substantial enhancement in connectivity and infrastructure accessibility.

Moreover, the growth trajectory extends beyond highways. Cargo traffic at major ports has surged from 581 million tonnes to 784 million tonnes, indicating enhanced maritime connectivity and trade facilitation. The electrified rail route has witnessed a remarkable expansion, increasing from 22,224 km in FY15 to 50,394 km in FY22, underscoring the government's commitment to modernizing and expanding the rail network.

India's aviation sector has undergone a transformative journey, with the number of airports doubling from FY15 to FY23. This expansion reflects the government's efforts to enhance air connectivity and unlock the economic potential of regions across the country.

Chart 8 presented in government reports illustrates the substantial improvements in physical infrastructure under the NDA government's tenure, highlighting the tangible progress made in national highways, ports, railways, and aviation.

These achievements underscore the government's unwavering focus on infrastructure development as a cornerstone of economic growth and development. The strides made in enhancing connectivity, modernizing transport networks, and fostering trade and commerce bode well for India's aspirations of becoming a global economic powerhouse.
