PM Modi Launches Major Initiatives for Cooperative Sector

In a significant move aimed at bolstering the cooperative sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several key initiatives at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi today. Among the highlights of the event:

Inauguration of Pilot Project: PM Modi inaugurated the pilot project of what is touted to be the 'World's Largest Grain Storage Scheme in Cooperative Sector,' implemented across 11 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACSs) in 11 states.

Foundation Stone Laid for Additional PACSs: The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for an additional 500 PACSs across the country, aiming at the creation of godowns and other agriculture-related infrastructure.

Computerization of PACSs: Another significant aspect of the event was the inauguration of the project for the computerization of 18,000 PACSs. This move is expected to bring transparency and modernize the functioning of these societies while also creating new business opportunities.

Ministry of Cooperation's Efforts: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, lauded PM Modi's initiatives in revitalizing the cooperative sector. He highlighted more than 54 initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Cooperation since its formation, emphasizing the sector's modernization and transparency.

Future Prospects: Shah expressed confidence that all PACSs in the country would be computerized by August 2024, enhancing their efficiency and integration with various activities. The computerization is expected to streamline operations, facilitate better management, and offer services to farmers in their local languages.

World's Largest Cooperative Food Grain Storage Scheme: The launch of this scheme aims to address India's storage capacity issues concerning food grain production. The modern facilities integrated into PACSs-linked godowns, including drones, tractors, and harvesting machines, are expected to strengthen the bond between PACSs and farmers while modernizing farming practices.

Overall, these initiatives mark a significant stride towards empowering the cooperative sector and enhancing agricultural infrastructure across the country.
