In a significant development, Mizoram and Assam are set to hold ministerial-level talks today to address the longstanding boundary dispute that has strained relations between the two neighboring states for decades. The talks, scheduled to take place at the State Guest House in Aizawl, will see top officials from both states working together to find a peaceful resolution to the contentious issue.
The Mizoram delegation will be led by Home Minister K. Sapdanga, while Assam’s team will be headed by Border Protection and Development Minister Atul Bora. The discussions are expected to begin at 4 PM, followed by a joint press conference at 6 PM, where the outcomes of the talks will be shared with the public.
This meeting is particularly noteworthy as it is the first official dialogue between the two states since the Zoram People's Movement, under the leadership of Chief Minister Lalduhoma, came to power in Mizoram in December last year. The boundary dispute has been a source of tension for many years, leading to occasional conflicts and a strained relationship between the two states.
Today’s talks offer a crucial opportunity for both states to explore avenues for cooperation and conflict resolution. The hope is that these discussions will pave the way for a lasting peace, ensuring the safety and well-being of communities along the disputed borders.
As the talks proceed, citizens and observers alike are hopeful for a positive outcome that will benefit both Mizoram and Assam, and serve as a model for resolving similar disputes in the region.
