Government of India Initiatives in Strengthening Cancer Treatment Facilities

In response to the rising incidence of cancer, the Government of India has undertaken several initiatives to strengthen cancer treatment facilities across the country. One of the key initiatives is the "Strengthening of Tertiary Care Cancer facilities Scheme," which aims to assist States and Union Territories (UTs) in setting up State Cancer Institutes (SCI) and Tertiary Care Cancer Centres (TCCC). Additional Initiatives

The Indian government is also focusing on oncology as a key area in new AIIMS institutions and many upgraded institutions under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY). The establishment of the National Cancer Institute at Jhajjar (Haryana) and the second campus of Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute in Kolkata are significant steps in this direction. These initiatives are set to enhance the capacity for cancer treatment across the country.
