What About the Eligibility of Youth and Young Adults Residing Out of Province?

Eligibility for the LFYA is not restricted by your current location. Here’s what you need to know:

Eligibility Consistent with SAJE:

• The approach taken by the Strengthening Abilities and Journeys of Empowerment (SAJE) program, which also serves youth and young adults in care, is mirrored in the LFYA program. This means that your eligibility for the LFYA grant is not affected if you are residing outside of British Columbia.

Support Across Provinces and Territories:

• Whether you’ve moved to another province or territory within Canada, your eligibility for the LFYA grant remains unchanged. As long as you meet the basic criteria based on your time in care and legal status, you can still apply for and receive the LFYA grant, regardless of where you currently live.

Applying from Out of Province:

• The application process for the LFYA remains the same, even if you’re applying from outside British Columbia. You can download the application form, complete it with your details, and submit it via email. The Specialized Provincial Services (SPS) team will review your application and verify your eligibility based on your care history, not your current location.

Why This Matters:

• The flexibility of the LFYA program ensures that youth and young adults who have moved out of British Columbia are not disadvantaged. This inclusivity is essential for providing ongoing support to those who have been in care, regardless of where life has taken them after leaving the province.
