How to Reset Your Password or Unlock Your Account Using Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR)

If you are registered for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and Self-Serve Password Reset (SSPR), you can easily reset your password or unlock your account by following these steps. This guide provides a detailed walkthrough to help you manage your account credentials securely.

SSPR allows you to reset your password or unlock your account if you have entered your Windows password incorrectly too many times. Before starting, ensure you save all your work and log off all applications, websites, or accounts to avoid any issues after resetting your password.

Steps to Reset Your Password

Launch Your Web Browser

  • Open your preferred web browser (e.g., Chrome, Explorer, Safari) and go to https://aka.ms/sspr.

Enter Your Email Address

  • Input your VCH, PHSA, or PHC email address.

Complete the CAPTCHA

  • Enter the characters or words in the audio as prompted (not case-sensitive), then click "Next."

Choose an Option

  • Select "Reset your password" and click "Next."

Answer Security Questions

  • Provide answers to the security questions as prompted, then click "Next."

Authenticate with MFA

  • Open your MFA-registered mobile device, launch the authenticator app, and enter the 6-digit one-time password code.

Enter a New Password

  • Once your account is verified, you will be directed to a page to enter a new Windows password.
  • Enter your new Windows password twice to confirm it, then click "Finish."

Password Tips

  • Length: At least 12 characters long
  • Avoid: Frequently used or easily guessable passwords (e.g., spring2022, password1234)
  • Complexity: Do not use single dictionary words; mix upper and lower case letters, include numbers and special characters (e.g., !@£)
  • Personal Info: Avoid using easily connected information (e.g., birthday, phone number, spouse's name)

    • A confirmation message will appear on the screen once your password has been successfully reset.
    • You will also receive an email confirming the password reset.
    • Close all browsers and restart your device before logging back in with your new password.

Select Unlock Your Account

  • Choose the option "Unlock your account" and click "Next."
