How to Reset Password on SADP Tool: A Step-by-Step Guide for Security Professionals

If you’re a security professional managing Hikvision devices, you may need to reset the password using the SADP Tool. This guide will walk you through the process, ensuring you can regain access to your devices efficiently.

Step 1: Download the SADP Tool

First, download the latest version of the SADP Tool from Hikvision’s official website. Download SADP Tool.

Important Note: Ensure that your Hikvision device and the computer with the SADP Tool are on the same subnet.

Step 2: Open SADP Tool and Search Devices

Open the SADP Tool on your computer. It will automatically search for online devices. Once the devices appear, select the one for which you need to reset the password and click on “Forget Password.”

Step 3: Respond to the Pop-Up

Depending on your device, one of the following pop-ups may appear:

  1. Security Code Required: If this option appears, proceed with Method 1.
  2. Encrypted File Required: For this, follow Method 2.
  3. Encrypted File or Key Required: You may need to follow either Method 2 or Method 3.

Method 1: Using Device Information

  1. Copy the Start Time and Device Serial Number.
  2. Send this information to Hikvision’s technical support team.
  3. They will send back security codes.
  4. Reboot the device to verify the Start Time.
  5. Enter the correct security code corresponding to the device's current time, then click “Confirm.”

Method 2: Using XML File

  1. Click the "Export" button to save the XML file.
  2. Send this XML file to the Hikvision technical support team.
  3. Once you receive the encrypted file from them, choose the file path.
  4. Enter your new password, confirm it, and click “Confirm” to reset the password.

Note: The encrypted file is valid for 48 hours only.

Method 3: Using QR Code

  1. You can either export the XML file as per Method 2 or take a screenshot of the QR code.
  2. Send the screenshot of the QR code to Hikvision’s technical support team.
  3. They will send back a key consisting of numbers and letters (8 bytes).
  4. Enter this key, set your new password, confirm it, and click “Confirm” to reset the password.

Additional Tip: If you wish to reset the password for both an NVR and its connected cameras simultaneously, select the “Reset Network Cameras’ Passwords” option.
