How to Recover Your Username or Reset Your Password for the R3® System

If you have forgotten your username or password for the R3® system, used for the Main Residency Match and Specialties Matching Service, follow these detailed steps to recover your account information.

Steps to Reset Your Password

Access the Login Screen

  • On the R3® login screen, click the “I forgot my Username or Password” link.

Enter Your Email Address

  • In the Forgot Password section, enter your email address in the applicable field.

Submit Your Request

  • Click "Submit." A green note will display indicating that an email has been sent to your inbox.

Check Your Email

  • Open your email inbox and find the message from NRMP. Click the "Click here to reset password" link within the email. Note: The password reset link will expire in 24 hours.

Enter a New Password

  • On the password reset page, enter a new password. Ensure your new password meets the following criteria:
    • Alphanumeric
    • At least 8 characters long
    • Contains at least 3 of the following: uppercase letter, lowercase letter, number, special character (e.g., #!$%)

Confirm Your New Password

  • Re-enter your new password to confirm it.

Change Your Password

  • Click "Change Password." A green note will indicate that your password has been reset successfully.

Log In

  • Return to the R3® login screen and log in using your username and new password.

Steps to Retrieve Your Username

Access the Login Screen

  • On the R3® login screen, click the “I forgot my Username or Password” link.

Enter Your Email Address

  • In the Forgot Username section, enter your email address in the appropriate field.

Submit Your Request

  • Click "Next."

Answer Security Questions

  • Answer the security questions you selected during registration. If your answers are invalid, contact the NRMP Help Desk at 866-653-6767 for further assistance.

Check Your Email

  • A message will display indicating that your username has been emailed to you. Access your email to retrieve your username.

Log In

  • Return to the R3® login screen, enter your username and password, and click "Login" to continue.
