How to Participate in Smart India Hackathon 2024: A Step-by-Step Guide
The Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024 is an exciting opportunity for students across India to showcase their innovation and problem-solving skills. To ensure smooth participation, it’s essential to follow the detailed guidelines for registration, team formation, idea submission, and more. This guide will walk you through the necessary steps to successfully participate in SIH 2024.
SPOC Registration
For Students:
- Note: Students cannot register directly for SIH 2024. Registration must be handled by the college's SPOC (Single Point of Contact).
For SPOCs:
- How to Register: Visit the Smart India Hackathon official website to register.
- Who Can Be an SPOC: Any senior faculty member such as a Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor, HOD, Dean, Director, or Principal.
After Registration:
- The SPOC's account will be authorized by the SIH implementation team.
- Once verified, the SPOC will gain access to the SIH portal.
Internal Hackathon
Conducting the Internal Hackathon:
- Report Submission: SPOCs must upload a detailed report on the dashboard portal, including event overview, photos, participating teams’ pictures, judging process, jury panel details, nominated teams, and social media promotion.
- Report Format: Maximum of 15 pages including various sections as listed above.
- Promotions: Use hashtags #sih2024 and #smartindiahackathon2024 on social media and tag the Innovation Cell, Ministry of Education.
Team Formation and Registration
Team Composition:
- Teams must consist of 6 members from the same college, including at least one female member.
- For software editions, programming skills are crucial. For hardware editions, multi-disciplinary teams are encouraged.
Registration Criteria:
- Only students selected in the internal hackathon can be registered.
- The college can nominate up to 30 teams (25 shortlisted + 5 waitlisted).
Nomination Process:
- Format: Enter team details in the prescribed format (Annexure A) on the SIH portal.
- Letter Requirements: The nomination letter must be on college letterhead, signed by the Principal or authorized official, and should include team details.
- Unique Team Name: Ensure the team name is unique and does not include the college name.
Idea Submission Process
Submission Details:
- Submission Window: Idea submission will start in August 2024. A maximum of 500 ideas will be accepted per problem statement.
- Team Limit: Each team can submit ideas for up to 2 problem statements.
- Deadline: The last date for team nomination and idea submission is September 12, 2024.
Steps to Submit:
- Verify and complete all pre-entered team and idea details on the SIH portal.
- Submit the idea title, description, and presentation (PDF).
Shortlisted Ideas:
- Notification about selected teams will be posted on the portal and emailed to the team leaders.
General Guidelines
Grand Finale:
- The Grand Finale will be held offline at various nodal centers across India in the 2nd or 3rd week of November 2024.
- Travel & Accommodation: Organized by SIH2024. Teams are eligible for Sleeper Class Non-AC fare reimbursement.
- Mentors: Teams may have up to 2 mentors for hardware editions and optional mentors for software editions.
