How to Apply for Right to Information (RTI) in Punjab

The Right to Information Act, 2005, allows citizens to request information from any public authority to promote transparency and accountability. Here’s a step-by-step guide to applying for RTI in Punjab.

Step 1: Collect Required Documents

Before filling out the application form, gather the necessary documents:

  1. Self Declaration (mandatory if applying under BPL)
  2. Proof of BPL (if applicable)

Step 2: Fill Out Personal Details

  1. Applicant's Personal Details:
    • Name*
    • Address*
    • PIN Code
    • District*
    • Contact Phone Number*
    • BPL Card Number (if applicable)

Step 3: Provide Service Details

Mode of Delivery:

  • Sewa Kendra
  • By Post

Application Processing Office:

  • Specify the office where the application will be processed.

RTI Details:

  • Department* (from which information is sought)
  • Subject matter of information*
  • Specify details of the information required*
  • The period to which the information relates (From and To dates)
  • Specify if the information is not made available by public authority under voluntary disclosure*
  • Agree to pay additional fees, if applicable*

Step 4: Attach Required Documents

Ensure you attach the relevant documents as listed in Step 1.

Step 5: Sign the Declaration

Read and understand the declaration regarding the usage of your information. Sign the form to confirm that the information provided is true and accurate.

Declaration: "I confirm that I have been residing in India for at least 182 days in the preceding 12 months & information (including biometrics) provided by me to the UIDAI is my own and is true, correct and accurate. I am aware that my information including biometrics will be used for generation of Aadhaar and authentication. I understand that my identity information (except core biometric) may be provided to an agency only with my consent during authentication or as per the provisions of the Aadhaar Act. I have a right to access my identity information (except core biometrics) following the procedure laid down by UIDAI."

Step 6: Submit the Application

Submit the completed application form along with the required documents to the designated application processing office or Sewa Kendra.

Feedback Form

After submission, you may be asked to fill out a feedback form regarding the application process. You will be asked:

  1. If there is any unnecessary information being asked in the form.
  2. If any vague information is being asked in the form.
  3. If the space provided in the form is sufficient for filling up the required information.
  4. Any other suggestions you may have.
