Guide to Self-Service Password Management (SSPM)

Effective password management is crucial for maintaining security and accessing critical systems without interruptions. The Self-Service Password Management (SSPM) tool empowers state employees and contractors with IN.gov email addresses to reset passwords, unlock accounts, and manage security settings independently. This guide explains how to register, reset your password, unlock your account, and manage account settings efficiently.

What is SSPM?

SSPM is a user-friendly web application that allows employees and contractors to manage their passwords and accounts securely. This tool is especially beneficial for accounts tied to:

  • State Email Addresses: Accounts ending in IN.gov.
  • Cloud-Based Services: SharePoint Online (SPO), CRM Online (CRMO), and Azure.

However, SSPM does not support the following accounts:

  • Admin/Elevated Accounts
  • FTP Accounts
  • Kiosk Accounts
  • Mainframe Accounts
  • Service Accounts
  • Training Accounts

If unsure whether SSPM will work for your account, attempt the reset process or contact the IOT Customer Service Desk at 317-234-HELP (4357) or 800-382-1095.

Chapter 1: Registering for SSPM

Prerequisites

  • You must know the password for the account being registered.
  • The account must not be expired, locked, or disabled.

Steps to Register

  1. Open any internet browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Safari).
  2. Visit password.in.gov.
  3. Click Register for Password Management.

  5. Set up five security questions:
    • Answers must be at least 3 characters long.
    • Use different answers for each question.
