  • Ministry of Forests (10:00 AM - 11:00 AM): Learn about wildfire risk reduction in the South Island with Devon Barnes.
  • Island Health (11:00 AM - 12:00 PM): A series of presentations on community health promotion, flood resilience, and injury prevention during natural hazards.
  • FireSmart (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM): Dave Moore from the Nanoose Bay Fire Department will discuss the FireSmart program and how it can protect your home.
  • PreparedBC (1:00 PM - 2:00 PM): Vicki Swan will offer tips on personal preparedness, particularly in the event of an earthquake.
  • Ministry of Agriculture (2:00 PM - 3:00 PM): Planning for emergencies with farming and livestock in mind, including insights on the BC Premises Identification Program.

4. Experience the Quake Cottage

One of the highlights of the Expo is the Quake Cottage earthquake simulator. Operating from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, this simulator allows you to experience the intensity of an 8.0 magnitude earthquake in a safe environment. This eye-opening experience will help you understand the importance of earthquake preparedness and the steps you can take to protect yourself and your family.

5. Special Attractions and Activities

  • Shriners Pancake Breakfast: Start your day with a delicious breakfast from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children.
  • PreparedBC Table Draw: Enter for a chance to win a four-person home emergency kit, perfect for kickstarting your preparedness plan.
  • Tsunami Documentary Screenings: Learn about the history of tsunamis on the Pacific west coast through the documentary Tsunami 11th Relative, which will be screened throughout the day.
