Difference Between Subsidized and Non-Subsidized Domestic LPG Cylinders

Domestic LPG cylinders are essential for households across India. However, consumers often encounter two types of LPG cylinders: subsidized and non-subsidized. This article will explain the differences between these two types, including their pricing, availability, and government regulations.

What are Subsidized Domestic LPG Cylinders?

Subsidized LPG cylinders are supplied to registered consumers at a subsidized price, as directed by the Government of India. These cylinders are available in 14.2 kg and 5 kg capacities.

  1. Pricing: The price of subsidized LPG cylinders is lower due to the government subsidy.
  2. Restrictions: There is a limit on the number of subsidized cylinders a household can receive each financial year. Currently, households are entitled to nine subsidized refills per year (April-March) for domestic cooking purposes.
  3. Availability: Subsidized cylinders are provided based on government regulations and are intended to make cooking fuel affordable for households.

What are Non-Subsidized Domestic LPG Cylinders?

Non-subsidized LPG cylinders are supplied to registered consumers at market-driven prices based on import parity prices. These cylinders are also available in 14.2 kg and 5 kg capacities.
