Zoya Akhtar is one of the most talented Indian film director and screenwriter. She was born on the 14th of October 1972 in Bombay, Maharashtra, India. The daughter of Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani. Her father is a well-known personality who is a political activist, poet, screenwriter, and lyricist as well and her mother is a film actress and screenwriter. She has a sibling brother, Farhan Akhtar who is also a well-known actor, screenwriter, and director too. She completes her graduation from St. Xavier’s College. To learn perfection in filmmaking, she attended New York University Tisch School of Arts.
In 1999, she began her directorial career as a co-director and also worked as a casting director. As assistant director of her brother Farhan Akhtar, she directed some films such as Split Wide Open, Dil Chahta Hai, Lakshya, etc. In 2007, Zoya founded her production company “Excel Entertainment” with Ritesh Sidhwani. Soon after in 2010, she made her first directorial debut with a Hindi-language drama film Luck by Chance. For her amazing direction, she won Filmfare Award for Best Debut Director. In 2011, she met her first directorial breakthrough with a buddy road film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. The film made 1.53 billion rs with a budget of 550 million rs in the box office. For that film, she won Filmfare Award, IIFA Award, Zee Cine Award, Apsara Award, for Best Director.
Later she directed more films including Bombay Talkies, Dil Dhadakne Do, Gully Boy, Made in Heaven, Lust Stories, Ghost Stories, etc. In 2012, she also wrote a film physiological crime thriller film Talaash, directed by Reema Kagti.
