Varun Singh Bhati, popularly known as Varun Bhati born in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India on 13th February 1995 is a Para Athlete. He was diagnosed with Poliomyelitis at a very young age. But he never gave up and played sports. His talent was first noticed in his School. Bhati attended St. Josephs School, Greater Noida. He completed his graduation from Delhi University from Maharaja Agrasen College. In 2014, he joined a former National Athlete Satyanarayana, he has been his coach since then. During Varun’s Para Champions Programme, GoSports Foundation supports his through his entire game. Now he lives in Bangalore as he getting trained under Sports Authority of India.
In 2012 Summer Paralympic Games in London, he was noticed, when he earned the “A” qualification mark in the game, where he performed the 1.60m High Jump, but unfortunately was not selected due to limited slots. Varun is suffering from T-42 Disability. He got the 5th position in 2014 Asian Para Games at Incheon, Korea. Bhati in China Open Athletics Championship in 2014, won Gold Medal. For the year 2015, he came 5th in position in Para World Championship in Doha, Qatar in 2015. He set a new Asian Record of the highest jump of 1.82m in IPC Athletics Asia- Oceania Championship and won the Gold medal for his performance, in 2016. Amit participated in Summer Paralympic Games held at Rio De Janeiro in 2016, and won the Bronze medal, with the jump of 1.86 m. With the jump of 1.77m Bhati again won the Bronze at World Para Athletics Championship in 2017. He has been awarded with the prestigious Arjuna Award for Para-Athletics.
