Vaiko is a famous Indian politician of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, an Agriculturist, Lawyer, Social Worker, and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), the upper house of the Indian Parliament from the state of Tamil Nadu. He was born on 22 May 1944 (age 77 years according to 2021) in Kallingappatti, Distt. Tirunelveli (Tamil Nadu), India. His father’s name is Shri Vaiyapuri and his mother’s name is Shrimati Mariamma. His educational qualification is M.A. (Economics), B.L. from St. Xavier's College, Palayamkottai, Presidency College and Law College, Chennai (Tamil Nadu). His religion belongs to Hinduism and Nationality, Indian. He is married to Shrimati Renuka Devi on 14 June 1971 and has three children one son and two daughters.
Vaiko started political his career as a candidate of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in 1964. He was first elected to the Rajya Sabha from the state Tamil Nadu in 1978, re-elected to Rajya Sabha (second term) in 1984, re-elected to Rajya Sabha (third term) in 1990. After that he left Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and joined Marumalarchi Dravida Munetra Kazhagam. In 1998, he was elected to the Twelfth Lok Sahba from the Sivakasi constituency and re-elected to Thirteenth Lok Sabha (second term) from the same constituency. In 2019, he was elected to Rajya Sabha (fourth term) with which he was made a member of Committee on Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Food Processing, member of Committee on Government Assurances, member of Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Currently, he is serving as a General Secretary of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam since 1994. He has also organized mass agitations seeking justice for commoners, organized massive marathon walks for public welfare.
