Lakshmikantha Rao is a famous Indian politician of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, Agriculturist/Farmer, Social Worker and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), the upper house of the Indian Parliament from the state of Telangana. He was born on 17 November 1939 (age 82 years according to 2021) in Village Singapur, Distt. Karimnagar (Telangana), India. His father’s name is Late Shri Srinivasa Rao and his mother’s name is Late Shrimati Kamalabai. His educational qualification is Bachelor of Science from Osmania University, Hyderabad, Telangana. His religion belongs to Hinduism and Nationality, Indian. He is married to Shrimati Saroja on 10 May 1962 and has one son.
V. Lakshmikantha Rao joined the Indian Army during the emergency in January 1963 as senior Commissioned Officer. After attaining the rank of Captain, relinquished the services by exercising option while converting his commission as regular senior Commissioned Officer. He was first appointed to the Sarpanch of Village Singapur, Huzurabad Mandal, Distt. Karimnagar was a Member of Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (M.P.T.C.), Huzurabad Mandal, Village Singapur, Distt. Karimnagar. He started his political career as a candidate of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
He was first elected to the Member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 2004 - 2006 and 2006 – 2009. In between, he was appointed to the Cabinet Minister of B.C. Welfare, Government of Andhra Pradesh for 2004-05. In 2016, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha from the state of Telangana. He has been awarded Raksha Medal (Indo-Pak War -1965). Currently, he is serving as a Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Defence and a member of the Committee on Defence.
