Tota Roy Chowdhury is an Indian actor who was born on 9 July 1976 in Kolkata, India. When Tota was in 2nd year, he made up his mind to join the Indian army and was preparing himself for the CDs exams when fate inverted and prominent director Prabhat Roy asked him to play a small role in his film. That one film brought other offers to Tota and soon he decided to become a professional actor.
After starring in a few commercially successful films, he was spotted by Rituparno Ghosh who is national award winning director and cast opposite Nandita Das in his film Shubho Mahurat. In spite of the presence of such a veteran artistes, such as Raakhee, Sharmila Tagore and Nandita Das in the film Tota made his mark.
Chowdhury was casted again in Chokher Bali opposite Aishwarya Rai in Rituparno’s adaptation. It was his breakthrough performance which hailed by both cinegoers and critics. Tota won many awards including BFJA Award for the best actor. Tota introduced with Tamil industry through AR Murugadoss directed Kaththi. He also starred in Sujoy Ghosh directed short film “Ahalya” alongside Sourmitra Chaatterjee and Radhika Apte. He got noticed in Hindi film industry when he played a role as Arun in the film Kahaani 2. Durga Rani Singh, directed by Sujoy ghosh along with Vidya Balan. Tota’s second Hindi film was Indu Sarkar released in 2017.
