Tiruchi Siva is a member of the Parliament of India representing Tamil Nadu in the Rajya Sabha. He was born on May 15, 1954 (age 67 years), Tiruchirappalli, India. He is a Member of the Rajya Sabha since 2014. He did his study at the University of Madras, Bharathidasan University. His father’s name is R. Natesan and his mother’s name is N.Dhanabakkiam. He married S.Devikarani.
He was imprisoned for one year under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) during the Emergency imposed by the central government led by Indira Gandhi in 1976. He was an organizer for the DMK District Student’s Wing in 1978. In 1982 and 1992 he served as the Deputy Secretary of the DMK Youth Wing. He was elected as a Rajya Sabha member from DMK from 1996-2020. He brought the Rights of Transgender Persons Bill in 2014, and unanimously passed by the Rajya Sabha. This was the first Private member's bill to be passed by any house in 36 years and by the Upper House in 45 Years.
