Thaawar Chand Gehlot is an Indian politician. He was born on May 18, 1948 (age 73 years), in Village Rupeta (Nagda), Distt. Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh) India. His father’s name is Shri Ramlalji Gehlot and his mother’s name is Shrimati Suman Bai. Thawar Chand served as Treasurer, Grasim Engineering Shramik Sangh affiliated to Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh. Detained several times in connection with workers’ movement and also remained in judicial custody for about 10 months in Bhairavgarh, Distt. Ujjain.
He is the most noticeable face of BJP for the Scheduled Castes. He represents the constituency of Shajapur in Madhya Pradesh. He was born in Rupeta village on May 18, 1948. The village is situated in the Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh. Gehlot pursued his B.A. Educated at Vikram University, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh Ujjain. He got married to Anita Gehlot on 1st May 1965 and the couple has a daughter and three sons. Gehlot started his political journey as a student leader. Thawar Chand Gehlot was the General-Secretary and Vice-President of Bhartiya Janata Party till 1980. Gehlot was elected to Lok Sabha from the Shajapur constituency. Later he became a Member of, Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Also, he served as the Member of Committee on Agriculture Member, Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Labour till 1997. He was re-elected to Loksabha from the Shajapur seat. He defeated Sajjansingh Verma of INC in 1998. He was again elected to Loksabha. Later Whip, B.J.P. Parliamentary Party, Lok Sabha. He was Member, Committee on Agriculture till 2000, Member, Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes till 2001.
He was appointed as National Secretary, BJP. He served this post till May 2004. He was appointed as Vice President, BJP & in Incharge of North East (Excluding Assam). He became Member of, Standing Committee on Labour in 2007. In April 2012, he was elected to Rajya Sabha. He was a Member, Committee on Labour Member, Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Member, Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways from May 2012 – May 2014 and Aug. 2012 – May 2014. In Aug 2012 he became a Member of, Central Advisory Committee for Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare (BOCW). On 27 May 2014, he became Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment. Thawar Chand Gehlot replaced Mr. Bajju Bhai Bala as the Governor of Karnataka on 6 July 2021.
