Tejaswini Sawant is a famous Indian air rifle shooter. She is also known as Teju. She was born on 12 September 1980 (age 41 years according to 2021) in the Maharashtrian city of Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India. Her father’s name is Ravindra Sawant (Indian Navy Officer, died in 2010) and her mother’s name is Sunita Sawant. She grew up with two younger sisters named Anuradha Pitre and Vijaymala Gavali. Her educational qualification is B.A. Psychology from Shivaji University Kolhapur, India. Her height is 158cm, 1.58m, 5 feet, and 2 inches and her weight is 60kg, in pounds 132 lbs. Under the tutelage of Jaisingh Kusale, Tejaswini Sawant's professional career began to take off. She made her first national appearance in 2003 at the National Shooting Championships. In 2004, she received her first international break after winning the gold medal in 10m Air Rifle at the South Asian Sports Federation Games in Islamabad. Between 2004 and 2006, Tejaswini took home 16 national medals, including 5 Gold medals, 6 Silver, and 5 Bronze medals at the National Shooting Championships. She was part of the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and won gold medals in Women's 10 m Air Rifle singles and Women's 10 m Air Rifle Pairs.
In 2010, she became the first Indian female shooter to win a gold medal at the World Championships, held in Munich. Sawant also bagged two silver medals and a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in 50m rifle categories. In 2011, Tejaswini won the bronze medal in 50m Rifle Prone after she was surprisingly defeated by Gold-medalist Rajkumari Rathore at the National Championships. In 2015, she helped her Maharashtra team to clinch the gold medal in the Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions Team. She received the prestigious Arjuna Award from the Government of India for her astounding performances in the shooting. At the 2019 Asian Shooting Championships, Tejaswini qualified for her debut Olympics at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics after she reached the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Final. Also, she took home the gold medal and a Bronze in 50m Rifle Prone Team and 50m Rifle 3 Positions respectively.
