Justice Tirath Singh Thakur known as Justice T. S. Thakur born in Ramban, Jammu and Kashmir on 4th January 1952. He was the 43rd Chief Justice of India. Thakur in October 1972 enrolled as pleader and later joined the chamber of his father Late Shri Devi Das Thakur, who was the former governor of Assam a leading advocate, later on, Thakur practised in Civil Criminal, Constitutional, Taxation and Service matters in the High Cout of Jammu and Kashmir.
In 1990 he was given the post of a Senior Advocate. On 16th February 1994 he was assigned as the additional judge for the High Court of Jammu And Kashmir, and then in 1994, he was transferred to the High Court of Karnataka as the Judge. He is married to Amita Thakur. In the month of September in 1995 he was appointed as a permanent judge. Thakur became the judge of High Court of Delhi in July 2004, in addition on 9th April 2008, Tirath was also assigned as Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, and then in the same year on 9th April, he took the post of the Chief Justice of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana.
He got promoted to Supreme Court on 17th November 2009. Tirath was appointed as the Chief Justice of India on 18th November 2015. Tirath Retired on 4th January 2017 when he turned 65 years. In April 2016 he also suggested the government to increase the number of judges to get the cases solves more effectively and faster.
