Sumalatha is a famous Indian politician and fabulous film actress. She was born on 27 August 1962 (age 59 years according to 2021) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, and raised in Bethapudi in Andhra Pradesh. Her father’s name is Shri Madan Mohan Vattayam and her mother’s name is Smt. Roopa Mohan Vattayam. She did her schooling at St. Joseph's Convent School, Brodipet, Guntur. Her nationality belongs to Indian. She married Late Shri Ambareesh (Kannada actor turned politician) on 08 Dec 1991 and has one son named Abhishek Gowda. Sumalatha started her career in the acting field at the age of 15 as her acting journey began in 1979 when she won the Andhra-Pradesh Beauty Contest and her pictures were printed on the cover of a magazine. After that, she made her acting debut with the Tamil film Thisai Maariya Paravaigal (1979). She has acted in more than 200 films in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi movies. Sumalatha has won two Kerala Film Critics Awards and a Nandi Award for Best Actress for her performance in movies like Thoovanathumbikal (1987), Isabella (1988), and Shrutilayalu (1987). In March 2019, Sumalatha announced that she would be running as an independent candidate in Mandya for the Lok Sabha elections against Nikhil Kumaraswamy from the JD(S) and elected to 17th Lok Sabha. She is the first Independent woman Member of Parliament from Karnataka. She has been a Member of the Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism, and Culture and a Member of the Standing Committee on Commerce in 2019-2020. Still, she is a Member of the Consultative Committee, Ministry of External Affairs since 2019, and a Member of the Standing Committee on Information Technology since 2020. She is also a Member of the Historical Bangalore Club; Bangalore Golf Club & Karnataka Golf Association Century Club, Bengaluru.
