His educational qualification is M.A.B.L. from Madras University, Chennai, and Venkateshwara University, Tirupathi (Tamil Nadu). His religion belongs to Hinduism and Nationality, Indian. He married Smt. Jayanthi and has 5 children 3 sons and 2 daughters. Subburaman Thirunavukkarasar started his political career as a Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly for consecutive six terms (1977-99) from the Aranthangi assembly constituency. In between, he has been appointed to the Deputy Speaker of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly for 1977-80, Cabinet Minister of Tamil Nadu for Industries, Housing Board, Excise and Handlooms, minister of state for Telecommunication and Information Technology, and Minister of State for Shipping. After that in 1999, he was elected to the 13th Lok Sabha from the Pudukottai constituency. He has also been elected to the Rajya Sabha for 2004 – 2009, Secretary of AICC (In-charge, Andhra Pradesh), and President of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee. He was re-elected to the 17th Lok Sabha (2nd term) in 2019 from the Tiruchirappalli constituency. He is the founder of “Bharat Ratna” Dr. MGR and Dr. Rajiv Gandhi Trust, which helps the poor, downtrodden, and orphan students and Founder & Publisher of Newspaper “Pon Manam”;
