Shibu Soren is an Indian politician. He was born on January 11, 1944 (age 77 years), in Hazaribagh, India. He is a Member of the Rajya Sabha since 2020. His father’s name is Late Shri Shobaran Soren. He married Smt. Roopi Soren.
Soren was appointed the General Secretary, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (J.M.M.) in 1971. Soren was elected to the 7th Lok Sabha from the Dumka constituency where he contested as an independent candidate. He subsequently retained the seat for seven terms in 1980. Soren was elected to the 7th Lok Sabha from the Dumka constituency where he contested as an independent candidate. He subsequently retained the seat for seven terms in 1989. He was subsequently elected in 1oth Lok Sabha from Dumka in 1991 and again in 1996 by defeating Babulal Morandi of BJP. Soren was elected again to the 14th Lok Sabha from Dumka where he defeated Sone Lal Hembrom with 114995 votes in 2004. He was sworn into the office in 2005, the position he served under for 10 days. He was elected the Minister for Coal in the Union Cabinet in November 2006. He retained the seat in the ensuing 15th Lok Sabha elections in 2009. He was re-elected from Dumka in the 16th Lok Sabha where he defeated Sunil Soren of BJP by a margin of 39030 votes in 2014.
