Satabdi Roy started her career as a Bengali actress and her debut film is Atanka (1986) for which she was honored with the BFJA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting role in 1987. After that, she took her feet in the political world as she was first elected to 15th Lok Sabha from Birbhum constituency of West Bengal in 2009 and re-elected to 16th Lok Sabha, 17th Lok Sabha from the same constituency.
