He was born on October 31, 1961, in Molokgaon in the Dibrugarh district of Assam to Mr Jibeswar Sonowal and Mrs Dineswari Sonowal. His entry into Guwahati University marked the starting of his political career.
Sonowal began his political career in the All Assam Students Union and became its president from 1992 to 1999. He joined the political avatar of the AASU (the oldest student body of the state) in 2001 known as Asom Gana Parishad and was elected MLA in the same year. He is regarded as a Jatiya Nayak of Assam, a title which was given by the AASU. He entered the Lok Sabha in 2004 for the first time. He joined the BJP in the year 2011 after having irreconcilable differences with the AGP leadership. In 2012, he was appointed as the president of the Assam unit of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP).
Sarbananda Sonowal held the position as an MLA, Assam Legislative Assembly from Moran Constituency from 2001 to 2004, as Member of Parliament, 14th Lok Sabha from Dibrugarh Constituency in 2004, as an Appointed Member of Consultative Committee in Ministry of Home Affairs in 2005, as an Appointed Member of Consultative Committee in Ministry of Commerce & Industry in 2006, he was appointed as National Executive Member of Bharatiya Janata Party in 2011, as State Spokesperson and General Secretary for Assam Bharatiya Janata Party in 2011, as State President for Assam Bharatiya Janata Party in 2012, appointed to head State’s 16th Lok Sabha Elections Assam Bharatiya Janata Party in 2014, as Member of Parliament, 16th Lok Sabha from Lakhimpur Constituency in 2014, as Union Minister of State-Independent Charge, Republic of India in 2014, declared as BJP Chief Minister candidate for 2016 Assam assembly elections, as Member of Assam Legislative Assembly from Majuli Constituency in 2016 and took his oath as 14th Chief Minister of Assam in 2016.

With due respect and humble submission I Mr. Khanindra Baruah would like to inform you that my wife Nondita Boro was suffering from Blood Cancer since July 2015. And we spent 8 month in Mumbai for her treatment and still we visit Mumbai in every alternative two month for her check-up. When we are in Guwahati we have to go for check up in B Baruah Cancer Hospital in every 2 week. In this connection I lost my private job. I am still in Mumbai. I am jobless since 2015 September.
I did everything to get a government job in order to secure my future, so that in future without any problem I can continue my wife’s treatment.
Even I got trapped in a net being lured of getting a government job against payment of Rs. 400000/ (Four lack). It was in year 2015; JULY 7th I paid Rs. 380000/ to DIBYOJYOTI DANGORIA of Anti Corruption department (A Athletic Coach of Assam) who promised me to give a job of EXCISE CONSTABLE. However after a complaint in Anti Corruption office, I got back Rs. 60000 on September 2016. The man had promised me to return the remaining amount by December 2016. But there is no response till now.
Sir, I kindly request you to help me in this matter, as I am in very bad shape financially. I had borrowed the money and have to pay interest.
In July 13 2017 when my wife was admitted in B. Baruah Cancer Hospital for 8 days my friends help me by giving blood and money. One of my friends sending me monthly 4/5 thousand rupees.

“Few years back there was a incident in G.S Road a girl was molested and after that girl was given name, fame, money even a government job also given. But there was some faults in that girl too. In our case there was not my wifes any fault. Neither she drink nor she smoke, nor she went to Bar’s. But my wife and I was molested by Cancer and raped by situation. And I become bagger by asking money to my friends and asking help in your office. But the C.M of Assam still not considered that people like us deserve a government job.

Sir, The nallas on both side of K K Handique Path and other lanes in Mathura nagar,Near Down Town hospital area are jamed and blocked with rubbish and have not been cleared nicely for months and as a result water is stagnant…Mosquitoes in abundance. God knows what would happen to all adjoining houses when dirty and filthy water of blocked nallas would enter during coming rainy season.
In past people from municipal corpn come and do patch work. With folded hands I request your Honour to look into this.

As a general public and a blind supporter of BJP i request you as a CM to concentrate on the day to day problems faced by people living in villages or towns. Under your control people are expecting change and development. But sadly enough i must say nothing remarkable happens yet. But why! Why dont you take simple and important steps to solve day today problems of people. Amola or bureaucrats are not engaged strictly yet. Offices are still heard of taking bribes from public. Where is the work culture in offices and institutions? Electricity boards are taking charges regularly but have you tried to see what service people are getting!! People in villages and even in towns are getting their wires reach their home in bambo posts in place of govt.supply pakka posts. Why dont you take initiative to order the department to supply the posts wherever necessary. Public will not go to electricity as they charge heavy amount. I have noticed some interior roads are under construction but roads are not broaden. Why! So there are lots of such issues around which needs your serious dictate.These public issues bring change around and people will taste change. I have tried to point out to you so that developmental activities be started quickly but under your strict supervision. Thank you.
