Sanjeev Rajput is a famous Indian air rifle shooter and Master Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class. He was born on 5 January 1981 (age 40 according to 2021) in Yamunanagar, Haryana, India. His father’s name is Krishan Lal (worked as a street food vendor). He grew up with an elder brother. He did his schooling at SD Public School Jagadhri, Haryana and his educational qualification are B.A. in Humanities/Humanistic at Sabarmati University, Ahmedabad, and M.A. in Physical education at Indira Gandhi Technological and Medical Sciences University, Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh. His religion belongs to Hinduism and nationality, Indian. His height is 178cm, 1.78m, 5 feet, and 10 inches and his weight is 78kg, in pounds 172 lbs. At the age of 18, he joined the Indian Navy as a Sailor. While serving in the Indian Navy, Sanjeev picked his interest in shooting. His interest in shooting ignited when he was sent to the sea for training and commissioned in gunnery. He was extraordinary in target practice and thus it was an easy decision for him to try his hands at shooting. Sanjeev has participated in national competitions by representing the Indian Navy since 2002. In the year 2004, he won three Golds and a silver medal at SAF Games, Islamabad. He won team gold in Commonwealth Shooting Championships, Melbourne in March 2005, in the 50m Rifle 3 position event. Sanjeev Rajput made his Commonwealth Championships debut in 2005, where he won a gold medal in 50m air rifle 3 positions held at Melbourne in Australia. In 2006, he won the bronze medal in 50m air rifle prone at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, followed by another bronze medal in 50m air rifle 3 positions at the Asian Games held at Doha in Qatar in the same year. At the SAGB Shooting Championship in 2009, the Indian shooter bagged 4 gold and 2 silver followed by team gold of Air rifle from the Asian Air Gun Championship in December 2009.
The year 2010 saw him claiming double gold in 50m Rifle 3 Position event in Commonwealth Shooting Championship plus silver in 10m air rifle event. He bagged a silver medal in ISSF World Cup Sydney, 2010 in 10m Air Rifle, while he won a team silver in 10m Air Rifle in Asian Games, held in China. In the same year, he was honored with Arjuna Award for Shooting. In 2014, he won a silver medal in 50m air rifle 3 positions at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, followed by a bronze medal in 10m air rifle at the Asian Games in Incheon later that year. At the 2016 ISSF World Cup, he won a silver medal in 50m air rifle 3 positions in Baku. In 2014, Sanjeev resigned from the Indian Navy as a Junior Commissioned Officer. In 2019, he has finally secured his birth at the Olympics Tokyo 2020 after an outstanding performance at the ISSF (International Shooting Sports Federation) World Cup.
