Samaresh Jung is an Air Pistol specialist and one of the finest shooters ever to whom India is proud. He was born on 5 May 1970 (age 51 according to 2021) in Haripur khol Nahan Himachal Pradesh, India. His father is a retired colonel of the Indian Army. He completed his schooling at the Modern School in Delhi. Samaresh holds a bachelor’s degree at the Osmania University in Hyderabad. His religion belongs to Hinduism and nationality, Indian. He has been played at 10 m air pistol, 25 m standard pistol pairs, men's 25m center fire pistol pairs, free pistol individual, and free pistol pairs events. He married Anuja Jung.
He inspired and learned shooting skills from his grandfather he taught him many tricks for shooting. Samaresh for the first time participated in the Commonwealth Games 2002 where he secured two gold medals with Jaspal Rana in the events Men’s free pistol pairs and Open Standard pistol pairs. Besides this, he has also won three Silver Medals among which two are from the individual events and one is along with Rana in the free pistol pairs. In the same year, he received the "Arjuna Award" from the Government of India in 2002. He achieved a silver medal in the SAF (South Asian Federation) Games held in 2004. He even secured Gold in the 10m Air Pistol event at the Indian National Games held in 2005.
At the fifth Commonwealth Shooting Championship of 2005, he earned 2 Gold, 2 Silver, and 1 Bronze. In 2006 he participated in the Commonwealth Games where he won a total of 8 medals these are started off with a silver medal along with Singh in men's 50m pistol and won five gold medals in Men's 50m Pistol, Men’s 10m Air pistol, Men's 25 m centerfire pistol, 10m Air pairs, 25m Standard Pistol pairs and 25m Center Fire Pistol regimens. He contested in the 10 m air pistol and 50 m pistol events at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing but failed to reach the finals in both events. His volunteers at the event called him the "Gold finger". He has been awarded the David Dixon "Best Athlete of the 18th Commonwealth Games" award. He received the honor to bear the Queen's Baton in the Opening ceremony, run at the Commonwealth Games held in Delhi, India in the year 2010. Currently, he is working at the Central Industrial Security Force CISF and lives in New Delhi.
