The Flag Code of India, 2002, took effect from January 26, 2002 and supersedes the ‘Flag Code –India’ as it existed. 2. According to part I (1.2) of the National Flag code of India the Flag shall be made of hand spun and hand woven wool/cotton/silk khadi bunting. 3. According to part I (1.3) of the National Flag code of India the Flag shall be rectangular in shape. The ratio of the length to the height (width) of the Flag shall be 3:2. 4. According to part I (1.4) of the National Flag code of India the standard sizes of the National Flag shall be as follows:- Flag Size No. Dimensions in mm 1 6300 X 4200 2 3600 X 2400 3 2700 X 1800 4 1800 X 1200 5 1350 X 900 6 900 X 600 7 450 X 300 8 225 X 150 9 150 X 100 5. According to Section 3 (3.20) of part III of the Flag Code of India the Flag shall not be allowed to touch the ground or the floor or trail in water. 6. According to Section 3 (3.24) of part III of the Flag Code of India the Flag shall not be used or stored in such a manner as may damage or soil it. 7. After all, the rules of the Flag code of India are being violated and the Flags of Plastic/Paper/Plastic coated Paper made can be seen easily nationwide on the occasion of Independence Day and Republic Day of India (This is violation of Point (1.2), (1.3) & (1.4) of Part I and point (3.20) & (3.24) of Part III of the Flag code of India). 8. According to a survey approximately 22-23 Crores Plastic National Flags will be destroyed, damaged, thrown in the streets and garbage on the eve of Independence Day nationwide. And after used either it is being burnt or dumped to soil, both are the components of pollutants. 9. So it has become necessary to amend the Flag code of India and issue such directions to all concerned to stop/banned making, selling, purchasing or using plastic National Flags throughout the Country. 10. Hence, you are being requested to take the notice and do needful in such regard. So that nobody can harm the reputation, respect and honour of the National Flag.
