He was born on 15 August 1950 (age 71 years according to 2021) in Nattani, Distt. Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu, India. His father’s name is Late Shri S. Subbiah Vanniyar (former staunch Congress party worker) and his mother’s name is Smt. Maragathambal. His educational qualification is B.L. from Madras Law College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. His religion belongs to Hinduism and Nationality, Indian. He married Smt. P. Maheswari on 10 Apr 1983 and has one daughter. He loves reading books on parliamentary practices, democratic ethics, and philosophy.
S. S. Palanimanickam started his political career when he was elected to the 11th Lok Sabha in 1996 represented the Thanjavur constituency of Tamil Nadu from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party. He had been a Member of Parliament for continuous five times these are 12th Lok Sabha (2nd term) in 1998, 13th Lok Sabha (3rd term) in 1999, 14th Lok Sabha( 4th term) in 2004, 15th Lok Sabha (5th term) in 2009 and 17th Lok Sabha (6th term) in 2019 from the same constituency. He has been Chairman of Committee on Agriculture, minister of state in the ministry of finance from 2004 to March 2012, and currently appointed to the Member of Business Advisory Committee, member of Committee on Estimates, member of Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture, and member of Consultative Committee, Ministry of Railways. He has also been President of Tamil Centre, Thanjavur (for more than twenty years), and General-Secretary of All India Peace and Solidarity, Tamil Nadu Unit.
