S. R. Balasubramoniyan is a famous Indian politician of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Social Worker and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), the upper house of the Indian Parliament from the state of Tamil Nadu. He was born on 14 November 1938 (age 83 years according to 2021) in Sultanpet, Distt. Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu), India. His father’s name is Late Shri Ramabadra Naidu and his mother’s name is Late Shrimati Rukmani Ammal. His educational qualification is B.A. (Hons.), B.L., M.A. from Pachaiyappa’s College, Chennai, Madras Law College, and the University of Madras, Chennai. His religion belongs to Hinduism and Nationality, Indian. He is married to Shrimati B. Balamani on 29 November 1968 and has two daughters.
S. R. Balasubramoniyan started political his career as a candidate of the Congress party and was first elected to the Member of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly for 1989 - 91, 1991 – 96 from Palladam constituency and for 2001 – 2006 from Thondamuthur constituency. He has been Leader of Congress Legislature Party and Leader of Opposition of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly for 1991 – 96. He is also served as a Union Minister of State for Personnel Public Grievances and Pensions Parliamentary affairs for 1996-97. In 1996, he was elected to the Eleventh Lok Sabha from the Nilgiris constituency.
He was appointed to the Leader of Tamil Maanila Congress Legislature Party for 2001-2002 and Leader of Congress Legislature Party for 2002-2006. In 2016, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha from the state of Tamil Nadu. Currently, he is serving as a Deputy Leader of AIADMK Party in Rajya Sabha since 2016Member of Committee on Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) since 2018, Member of Committee on Home Affairs since 2019, Member of Joint Committee on Salaries and Allowances of Members of Parliament since 2019. He is also actively associated with many organizations working for the upliftment of the downtrodden.
