He was born on 15 August 1950 (age 71 years according to 2021) in Kalingamali, Villupuram district in Tamil Nadu, India. His father’s name is Shri G. Swamikannu Gounder and his mother’s name is Smt. Lakshmiammal. His educational qualification is Matriculate from Valudvur. His religion belongs to Hinduism and Nationality, Indian. He married J. Anusuya on 09 Sep 1973 and has two children one son and one daughter. He loves to do Reading and writing, music, religious activities in his free time.
S. Jagathrakshakan started his political career as a candidate of Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK) and was first elected to Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from Uthiramerur for 1980-84. In the same year, he was appointed to Chairman, Estimate Committee. In 1985, he was elected to the 8th Lok Sabha from Arakkonam constituency and became Leader of AIADMK Parliamentary Party of Lok Sabha. He was made a member of the Committee on Official Language for 1987-88. After that, he was re-elected to 13th Lok Sabha (2nd term) in 1999, 15th Lok Sabha (3rd term) in 2009, 17th Lok Sabha (4th term) in 2019. He has been appointed as a Union Minister of State of Information and Broadcasting, Union Minister of State of New and Renewable Energy, and Union Minister of State of Commerce and Industry. In 17th Lok Sabha, he was made a member of Committee on Welfare of Other Backward Classes, member of Standing Committee on Human Resource Development, member of Standing Committee on Science & Technology, Environment & Forests, and member of Consultative Committee, Ministry of Power and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. He has also got the glory in writing field as he wrote 30 books (in Tamil and in English), three books received awards and three were recognized as subjects in Madras, Madurai and Gandhi Gram Universities syllabus and one book were released by Mother Teresa.
