Ramdas Athawale is an Indian political personality and social worker. He was born on December 25, 1959 (age 61 years), Agalgaon, Distt. Sangli, Maharashtra, India. He is a Member of the Rajya Sabha since 2014. He did his study at Siddharth College of Law. His father’s name is Bandu Bapu Athawale and his mother’s name is Honsabai Bandu Athawale.
Ramdas Athawale represents Maharashtra in the Rajya Sabha and also represented the Pandharpur constituency for two terms. He is also known for his activism streak, having participated in the Dalit Panther movement in 1974. His close association with the Republic Party of India precipitated his close ties with INC. He is the president of the Republican Party of India. In 2004, he contested and won Pandharpur constituency for a second term and defeated Kshirsagar Nagnath Dattatray of BJP by a margin of over 1,00000 votes. In 2014, he was elected to Rajya Sabha and Member, Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. He was inducted into Modi's cabinet as MoS Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in 2019.
