Rahi Sarnobat is a famous Indian 25m air pistol shooter. Her full name is Rahi Jeevan Sarnobat and her nickname is the golden girl. She was born on 30 October 1990 (age 31 years according to 2021) in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India and belongs to a Marathi family. Her father’s name is Jeevan Sarnobat and her mother’s name is Prabha Sarnobat. She completed her schooling at Usharaje High School and graduated from Vivekanand College, both in Kolhapur. Her height is 157cm, 1.57m, 5 feet, and 2 inches and her weight is 80kg, in pounds 175 lbs. Her hair color is black and her eye color is also black. Her religion belongs to is Hinduism and nationality, Indian. Her coach’s name is Munkhbayar Dorjsuren. Her current club is Chattrapati Shivaji Sports Complex, Pune.
Rahi Sarnobat picked up an interest in shooting when she was in school. In the initial years of her training, she practiced in her hometown in Kolhapur where there wasn’t a proper infrastructure for shooting. She started her professional career in 2006 as she become part of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and won 2 Gold Medals. Rahi won her first gold medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games held in Pune, India in the year 2008. In 2010, she won Silver and Gold in 25m air pistol and 25m air pistol pairs at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. Rahi got selected in the 2012 Olympics after winning a bronze medal in the World Cup 2011. She became the first Indian shooter to qualify for the 25-meter sports pistol event in the Olympics. She grabbed the spotlight in 2013 when she became the first Indian pistol shooter to win the gold medal in the World Cup in Changwon. In 2014, she claimed a gold medal in Women’s 25-meter pistol in Commonwealth Games, held at Glasgow. She bagged a bronze medal in the 25-meter pistol team event at the 2014 Asian Games, held at Incheon. In 2018, she was crowned as National Champion in a 25m air pistol event at the National Shooting Championship in Gurgaon.
She retained the crown the following year at Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh. In the same year, she became the first Indian woman shooter to win the Asian Games Gold medal after she achieved the feat in a 25m air pistol event at the Asian Games at Jakarta in Indonesia. A year later, she won 2 Gold medals at the ISSF World Cup (each in Munich and Germany) in a 25m air pistol event. She won a gold medal in the 2019 World Cup, held in Munich Germany, and thus got selected for the 2020 Olympics, scheduled to be held in Tokyo. Rahi Sarnobat was honored with Arjuna Award by the National Rifle Association of India in 2015.
